The door is undoubtedly an important component of your oven. If the door won't close, then you really can't prepare food -- at least safely or effectively! Luckily, in many cases, you can fix a broken oven door yourself. Try doing so by following these steps.
Step 1: Unplug the oven.
You don't want to be working on an oven when it's plugged in! Unplug the oven, and if it is a gas oven, also turn the gas supply off.
Step 2: Release the hinges.
The reason your oven door won't close might be that it has come off one of the hinges accidentally. If this is the case, all you need to do is open the door all of the way (so that it's as flat to the ground as you can get it) and then push the door towards the oven. You may hear a "pop" as the door sets back into the hinge.
If pushing the door back onto the hinges does not fix your problem, then it's time to examine the hinges and see if they are broken. To do this, open the door as far as you can, and then pull on it horizontally. This should pop the door off both of the hinges. Look at the hinges, and if one of them has snapped or is otherwise broken, use a screwdriver to unscrew it. Take it with you to the hardware store to buy a new hinge. Screw the new hinge into place, and then push on the oven door (as discussed in the paragraph above) to set it back into the hinges. Your problem should be solved!
Step 3: Check the springs.
If the hinges appear to be fine, the problem probably lies with the springs, which control how the door closes. They can become stretched out as the door ages. Look for the springs, which should be wound around the bolts between the door and the oven wall. If you spot a spring that looks stretched out, use pliers to remove it from around the bolt. Buy a spring of the same size, slide it onto the bolt, and use pliers to tighten it.
